Learn the facts
Community water fluoridation is the adjustment of water's naturally occurring fluoride content for the purpose of improved dental health. Fluoridated water reduces and prevents tooth decay and thus wards off cavities. Community water fluoridation is safe for all ages and provides benefits throughout one's lifespan. Fluoridated water is effective - it reduces tooth decay up to 40%. Fluoridated water can help you spend less time in the dentist's chair and spend less money on costly dental treatments. For every $1 spent on water fluoridation, $38 is saved in dental treatment costs.
Water fluoridation has been in practice in the United States since 1935. Currently, nearly 70% of the nation receives the benefits of fluoridated water. The Centers for Disease Control considers water fluoridation to be one of the Top 10 public health achievements of the 20th Century.
