A Family-Friendly Mardi Gras
The City of Walker will again celebrate the Mardi Gras season with a parade — one that's completely family friendly.
The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4. Catch a glimpse of festive floats, antique cars, horseback riders, marching bands, dancers and other performers from throughout the region as they wind their way through the heart of Walker. Beads, candy and other prizes will be plentiful!
Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to participate, and there is no entry fee. You can walk, pull a little red wagon, drive a golf cart or ATV, ride in a truck or trailer, or go all out with a float. To sign up for free, call the Walker Municipal Building at 225-665-4356. Participants should plan to line up at Walker High School between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. the day of the parade.
The parade will start at Walker High School and travel east on Burgess Avenue to Highway 447. It will then travel south on Highway 447 one block to Florida Boulevard. The parade will head west on Florida Boulevard to Palmetto Street, where it will travel north to Burgess Avenue, returning to the high school.
