Obtaining an occupational license

Occupational Licenses
Walker Municipal Building
10136 Florida Boulevard
Walker, LA 70785

Phone: 225.665.4356

Hours
7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday

The City of Walker's Occupational License Department collects occupational license taxes from businesses located inside the city limits. New businesses must obtain their occupational license prior to opening their business.

For a new business

You will need:

1. A completed Occupational License Tax Application [click here]
2. A valid driver’s license

To obtain an Occupational License, you must complete the Occupational License Tax Application, and submit it to the City of Walker, along with a check made payable to the City of Walker for $50. You will be issued a temporary Occupational License that is valid for 40 days. After the business has operated for 30 days, the gross receipts for that period shall be multiplied by the number of months, or major fraction thereof remaining in the calendar year, to determine if any additional occupational license tax is due. This information should be detailed on Schedule A: Calculation of Taxable Gross Receipts, beginning on page 2 of the Occupational License Tax Application.

Additional questions concerning obtaining an Occupational License can be addressed by the Occupational License Department at 225.665.4356 or via email here.

Once your application is processed by the Licensing Department, an Occupational License Certificate will be mailed to you to be posted in your place of business. This license will be valid for the remainder of the calendar year. The necessary forms are listed below:

After the business has operated for 30 days, the gross receipts for that period shall be multiplied by the number of months, or major fraction thereof remaining in the calendar year, to determine if any additional occupational license tax is due.  Additional questions concerning obtaining an Occupational License can be addressed by the Occupational License Department at 225.665.4356 or send us an e-mail here.

Rate of Tax

The rate of tax varies with each class of business. Click here to see the occupational license tax tables from the Louisiana Municipal Association. Locate your applicable business class in the upper left hand of the table, then determine your fee based on gross sales.

Renew your occupational license

To renew your occupational License with the City of Walker, you must complete an Occupational License Application and submit your previous year sales using Schedule A: Calculation of Taxable Gross Receipts, beginning on page 2 of the Occupational License Tax Application. This should be submitted to the City of Walker, along with your designated fee determined by the tables found here. You will be mailed an official occupational license after your completed application has been processed. If you have any questions, please contact the Occupation License Department at 225.665.4356.
