The Town of Walker's parks and recreation programs exist to enrich the lives of our residents, promoting physical and emotional well-being and providing venues for fitness, socializing and peaceful respite. The city maintains five baseball fields and three concession stands, and - in partnership with the Livingston Parish Soccer Association - 12 soccer fields. We coordinate and schedule softball, t-ball and basketball programs for children ages 5 to 13. The city also boasts two major parks with playgrounds, pavilions for gatherings and barbecues, and paved walking trails.

Our programs

Baseball, softball & t-ball
This program is for children ages 5 to 14. Registration for spring and summer seasons begins in February. Practices begin in mid-March; games begin in the middle of April and run through the first week of July. Once the season has ended, two to three weeks of All Star games are played. Approximately 850 to 900 children participate each year.

Biddy basketball
This program is for 5 and 6 year olds, who play co-ed. Players begin practices around the end of October and games are played from mid-November through mid-January. So that as many children as possible can participate, we wait until the end of soccer season to begin this program.

Girls' basketball
This program is for girls ages 7 to 12. Registration kicks off in September. Games run from the middle of October through the end of November, followed by three to four months of All Star games.

Boys' basketball
This program begins once football season is over so our community youth can participate in the many sports programs offered. It is for ages 7 to 12. Practices begin around the end of October, with games from mid-November through the end of December. This is followed by about two months of All Star games. Our entire basketball program has about 300 to 350 children participating each year.

Livingston Parish Soccer Association
The Livingston Parish Soccer Association is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Louisiana Soccer Association and is run entirely by local volunteers. The organization adheres to the guidelines of the United States Youth Soccer Association to ensure development of soccer knowledge and skills is age appropriate and a beneficial experience is available to all players. Their games are played in Sidney Hutchinson Park. For more information about teams, click here.
