Faces of Walker

Nicole Holland Green [above, teaching a children's cooking class]
Caterer
37 years old

Years in Walker: 37

What brought me here: My parents, Lane & Margie Holland

My business is: I am an event caterer and personal chef, but my key business is preparing homemade family meals to go. Customers place orders on my website, www.nicolecooks4u.com, by Sunday evenings. They then pick them up on Tuesdays between 3 and 6. This is economical, wholesome, and extremely convenient. My customers are so happy to have a home-cooked meal instead of fast food or take-out. I also teach children's and adult cooking classes.

My favorite spot in Walker: Aesthetically, it's the Freshman High, because I love old buildings and it is, I believe, our only historic landmark. For other reasons, my favorite place is my church, Revival Temple. Sometimes life feels like the ground is constantly shifting; we face disappointment, hurt, and setbacks, but my church is one constant in my life. I have been a member there for 27 years and every time I have ever walked through the doors, I have felt peace. That is incomparable!

Why I love Walker: For me, it is all about roots. My parents have lived here their whole lives; my father was even born at home in Walker. My husband has lived here 35 years. We travel a good bit and I have seen many beautiful places, but nothing compares to Walker simply because it is HOME.
