On exhibit now: Patricia Delk's 'Scenes From A Country Life'
Through the end of April, our Community Art Gallery will feature award-winning Walker artist Patricia Delk's 'Scenes From A Country Life.' The collection features images of horses, mules, pioneers, cowboys and spring blooms in pencil, watercolor and acrylic.
Delk will also teach a series of classes for adults from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays during March in our Community Art Gallery. Cost is $100 for four sessions. Class size is limited to 10 students. For more information or to sign up, contact Delk at 225-937-0736, or via email at fatpat31@charter.net.
Insomnia was the impetus for Delk's career. Having found the doodles she had done on sleepness nights, her husband called from work one day to ask, "How would you like to take art classes? I've signed you up." She spent the next seven years studying at Baton Rouge Fine Art Academy under the tutelage of Larry Casso.
With a unique ability to capture the essence of life, Delk does pencil studies of each new work. The finished piece is done in watercolor or pastel. She particularly enjoys portraits of horses, mules and people. "If I get the eyes right, I've got it made because they reflect the personality of the subject," she says. "If someone feels emotion when they view my work, I have done my job."
Delk's work has won several best-of-show and first-place awards from the Denham Springs Fine Arts Association, the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy and other competitions.
Delk's exhibit opens Saturday, February 26. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. |
