Walker has five council members of which 3 are in separate districts and two are at large to represent the entire community. They serve unlimited four-year terms. The city is governed by the Lawrason Act. Under that form of government, the mayor acts as the chief executive officer, responsible for all administrative functions; the council, a legislative entity responsible for enacting ordinances, and adopting and amending a budget.
